Garden Party

I meant to do a blog update last week, but things were busy. First, the garden update. Last Sunday I harvested some lovely little peppers. The quarter is there for comparison. Also, I took a picture last Sunday of how tall my regular tomato plant is. (note the line, the circle is the little tomatoes.) However, since I never got around to doing a blog post last week/weekend. I took more garden pics today so as to be current and accurate, since I'm nothing if not slightly compulsive. (No snickering - I can hear you all). So this is the comparison pic on the tomatoes to the left. The red line is where the top of the tomato plant is. If the thing were standing up straight (it's leaning cross the window box) it would be ten feet tall. It's ridiculous.  My cherry tomatoes began to turn red finally.   I also began to get some heft on the regular tomatoes.  I don't think I have enough of a growing season left though.  If any of you out there in Internet land have good recipes for green tomatoes, please let me know.  I'll probably have all of three.
The peppers are doing very well though.  I have two jalapenos that are almost full grown and about six serranos.  Also I think I should have about ten habaneros if they can grow before the season is over. I think that next year I may call it quits on the tomatoes and just work on peppers and herbs.  I don't think I have enough sun for much else.  The cukes are vining everywhere and are climbing the tomato plants, but I only have one cuke that is more than an inch long.
In writing news, I don't seem to be doing much.  So far this month I've only gained 1,337 words for a new total of 107,844.  I seem to be in a bit of slump, and I'm considering whether I should try to do some revision or go back and add to some of the characters' back stories, because: (a) it needs to be done and (b) maybe it will help crystallize an ending for me.  And then I wonder if this idea is just a subconscious procrastination technique because it puts off me figuring out what's going to happen at the end of the book.  Sigh.
In fiber news, I have two F.O.'s (finished objects for the non-knitterly) to announce. I finished the purse for the cruise.  I wish you could see how sparkly it is in real life, it's very silver-y, and the strap is beaded, but I couldn't seem to capture it in real life.   I also finished the Mad Color Shawl Along.  My friend Heather is the creative force behind Mad Color yarns and her group on Ravelry just did a shawl along (not a knit along because we all used different patterns).  It's blocked but not dry yet.  I do not currently have anything on the needles.  Weird huh?  But I plan to start the Absinthe socks from Knitty.com using Miss Babs Yummy 2-ply in Iris, which is on the top left.  Also, recently having joined Google+, the knitterly folk there have started a knit-along, which is going to start August 16.  I've decided to use the Dream in Color Smooshy with Cashmere that Mary T gave me (bottom left).  I think it'll be perfect.  The yarn is so soft that I want to roll in it, and the knit along is another shawl, so hey, that'll work out well.

Last weekend I attended Alison M's and Jim S's engagement party.  It was lovely.  If you want to see all the pics, go here. However, as the cake topper has a fiber them, I think showing a picture here is appropriate. You'll note that bride is knitting with orange yarn.  How could it be anything else?  The food was catered by Fred and was fabulous as usual.  Pretty much anything Fred makes is fabulous.

I also got to attend Lora K's 40th birthday party last weekend which was fun.  Lora was surprised, which made it a good thing that I managed to stop myself from saying something dumb at Panera the night before.  Just as some words were about to leave my mouth, I realized I wasn't sure if it was a surprise or not.  So for once I was not a bull in a china shop.  Please make a note of that, not sure if it will ever happen again.

In a friend's fiber news, it was the end of an era on Wednesday.  Sally H-D finished the watermelon dress that she began for Trixie some time in 2007.  So then we made her try it on.  I'm not sure what that was about.  But it was finished.  And I've since heard that it still fits Trixie as a shirt rather than the intended dress, and that she likes it.
In other news, I've been working on my tattoo plans.  I've actually had some email correspondence with a tattoo artist and I've been working on refining really what it is I want to do.  I've taken a dragon and photoshopped him a bit to get rid of the things that I didn't want and then I've drawn in the basic idea. The arms are crappy and I'm hoping she can redraw it so that it's right, but this is the basic idea.  The yarn comes off the ball and spells "Yarned and Dangerous." Not that you can really tell that from the state of the drawing at this moment.

And I think that's it for this episode.  Stay tuned.
